Marieke Schuurs, THW Birth Doula

Marieke believes that your birthing experience is a sacred, organic and empowering moment, to be nurtured, protected and supported. She brings her intimate understanding of how the body works (from the Alexander Technique) and her deep understanding of breathing (from teaching singers) to her doula work, helping each birthing person understand the miracle of their body’s abilities. She likes to meet with a client several times before the birth, both to offer techniques and to establish trust. Marieke knows that the birthing person’s team (partner, parent, friend) needs equal nurturing, as they are the primary support system for the birth and the new family going forward. She holds space for everyone involved, and collaborates with the other health care professionals involved in providing care and support.

As a DONA trained THW doula, Marieke is committed to offering high-quality evidenced based education to her clients, providing them with the resources and information they need to make informed decisions throughout their birthing process. Marieke remains available to a client though the first months of the post-partum period, offering support in person or by text/phone.
